Mammogram Examination
-
Report to the radiology clinic reception desk a few minutes prior to your appointment time. If you are late or miss your appointment you will not be seen until the next available appointment. Please call to cancel or reschedule an appointment when necessary.
-
A mammogram is a special x-ray of breast. During the exam you may experience slight discomfort with compression. It is important that the compression is applied to the breast in order for the radiologist to be able to see any abnormalities and to lessen your x-ray exposure. Please try to schedule your appointment after your menstrual period, when your breasts will be least sensitive.
-
Please do not wear any deodorant, powder, perfumes, hair spray, mousses, creams or lotions from the waist up to your appointment. These could give you a false-positive reading on your examination.
-
The examination will take 20 to 30 minutes, after which the technologist will give the films to the radiologist for interpretation. A report will be sent to your physician in approximately 5 working days. The technologist is not allowed, by law to interpret or discuss the films or finding with the patient. You will also receive a report, sent to the address you provide, in approximately 5 working days.
-
Please bring this appointment slip with you on the day of your examination. You do not need to pick-up your medical records for this appointment.
-
It is very important that you bring any previous mammograms that you may have had taken elsewhere with you on before your appointment.
-
Mammograms should always be read in comparison with previous studies, as this will expedite the interpretation of your current examination. When requesting film(s) from another facility please allow 7 business days' notice.
Special Note
-
Any female who is pregnant or thinks she may be pregnant, should let her doctor and technologist know before the examination. Pregnant females WILL NOT HAVE ANY IMAGES TAKEN.
-
All Mammogram films are maintained in the Radiology Department.
-
Unaccompanied children are not allowed in Radiology or in the X-Ray Exam Room unless the exam is for the child.
